I'm sure that even you would have to admit that screen-names can be a
liability. Even on the SDMB itself, people often comment that they just
skip over posts by a certain member. They're assuming a priori that poster has nothing
worthwhile to say.
Posting anon overcomes any bias people might have about the poster
and allows posts to stand or fall on their own merits.
under a screen-name doesn't automatically grant credibility to a
poster's statements - especially in the anon communities where someone
can be posting under several different screen-names and also posting
For all we know, you could have 6 different DJ names and
be posting under all of them as well as posting anon when you don't
want something attributed to the Dio handle.
This ain't the SDMB. People here aren't
looking to create a long-term persona. They're here to shoot the breeze.

This should be made a sticky. I'm not fucking around.
Allan! Make this the official Anon Credo.
Done, with a few minor edits. It's on the userinfo page.
very well said, Anon.
That's one of the best arguments for posting anon that I've seen, but
why the hatred for people who choose not to?
would stop the "I'm better than you" stuff (which I only do because it
pisses them off so much) if they would can the resentment about those
of us who don't want to post anon.
The truth is, I don't post
under my SD name because I think I'm better than anons or because i
want to be perceived that way but because I don't want to be a
hypocrite. When I first found out about these places, I came on pretty
strong about the cowardice of anon posters, and while I've mellowed out
a little bit (I now realize it's only a small percentage of anon
posters who say the really vile shit) I've put myself in a situation
where I can't post anon without being a hypocrite. Plus, I really don't
say anything here that I wouldn't say on the Dope. I'm not interested
in in other dopers' personal lives, if I want to tell someone to fuck
off I'll do it directly on the board and I don't have any hidden
feelings of racism or homophobia or misogyny. I don't particularly have
anything to hide and it's not like I have any kind of saintly board rep
Also, my posting style is such that I'd probably get recognized anyway so
what's the point?

I said this about twenty posts up. I wasted all that fucking time!!
If it was you at June 15th, 2005 - 12:12 am
then it wasn't wasted. You gave a slightly different angle. I linked
both on my front page for now. They are nice little pieces.

Thaaaats me. This anon said it better though, and before me. Although
I'm touched by the inclusion.
Well, I wanted to give a couple of non-Cloudhelmut comments on the
site re: anon-posting. Both of yours give it clearly.
